Dear Parents and Division Youth Athletes-

First, thank you for your participation in the WCRA Division Youth (DY). I’d like to highlight a few exciting new details to you:

The basic make-up of the DY program is this; a yearlong season that concludes with a finals, the Cinch World Championship Junior Rodeo (WCJR). This past July we announced that the top 16 Junior (19 and under) and the top 16 Youth (15-13) will qualify for the $200,000 added WCJR which is held at the Lazy E arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma. The points earned throughout the season along with the finals points earned will determine each individual world championship, as well as a Boys and a Girls All Around title. These world championships include a cash bonus as well as a world championship prize package.

There are two other ways to compete at the WCJR one, by earning a position through a “Qualifier Series” (QS) These qualifiers earn a spot to the qualifying rounds with no entry fees. There are a limited number of these events and the list can be found here.

There will also be an open entry option for those who don’t qualify, which will include entry fees. Open entry athletes will need to qualify through the qualifying rounds of competition but will enjoy a fantastic event. We are determined to grow this event to be one of the best opportunities for up-and-coming athletes.

Now we are announcing another addition to the DY program- The Cowtown Christmas Championship Rodeo DY Showcase. The top eight on the Junior leaderboard (all disciplines) as of November 27 will be eligible to compete in this full-scale performance which will air live on RidePass/PlutoTV. We plan to apply the elements to the DY Showcase performance as we do the Triple Crown of Rodeo performances, including instant replay. With a $55,000 payout, this one head competition will show the world how amazing these top DY athletes really are.

The top eight are not required to compete but those who do, will have the chance to earn significant World Championship Points along with the payout against only seven other athletes. Additionally, we plan for a day of media training for all the DY Showcase participants, which is sure to be a long serving experience. We believe that showcase events such as this will serve as a recruiting tool for college rodeo programs as we will be sending invites to many college rodeo coaches.

We have created WCRA Division Youth Showcases to create more opportunity for youth athletes. The ultimate end goal is to create a DY Showcase at each WCRA Triple Crown of Rodeo Event for athletes to earn more money and points leading up to the WCJR.

In addition to the DY Showcase, our friends at Rodeo Corpus Christi (RCC) have hosted the top eight timed event athletes from our Junior Leaderboard as of the RCC cutoff date to compete with the pros for the $550,000 payout. The athletes have also had the opportunity to battle it out for a $21,000 incentive payout dedicated to our DY athletes. This has been well received and we plan to continue to offer this as an additional opportunity to the top athletes on the leaderboard.

We plan to continue to improve the opportunities for our youth and your participation makes that possible.
